A Web Content Management System (WCMS) is a software application that allows users unfamiliar with web programming languages to create and manage the site’s content with relative ease. The advantage to using a WCMS is that it simplifies site maintenance and makes it easier to create value for visitors since the ever-changing site content gives them a reason to keep coming back.

At Datacare, we use WordPress, which is an open source software, to design and build websites. Whilst it started out as a tool specifically for blogs, it is so versatile that it is now being used for full-blown websites, including those for CNN and New York Times for blogging, the Wall Street Journal to power their online magazine, and Ford to run a more traditional website. The advantages of WordPress are that:

  • It is easy to use and is constantly being improved by a diverse team of web developers
  • It is widely supported
  • It is absolutely free
  • It is based on a theming system, allowing you to change the appearance of your website
